This forest is a beach forest in Oiartzun, Basque Country in Coastal Northern Spain. This forest is unique due to the history charcoal production within the region. Instead of clear cutting forest lands, the trees were instead pruned to preserve the trees and maintain the integrity of the forest across for hundreds of years. These trees have since re-grown with short stubby trunks and dramatically long limbs that shoot outward like arms from almost every angle. That combined with the foggy entourage does give this forest ghostly feel. Below is an image of master photographer Zapirain who really manages to capture the aerie feel of the forest.
